Masquers cast Shakespeare show

  Rehearsals are underway for the Mills Masquers' upcoming production of William Shakesepeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

     The show opens May 2 at the Barton Theater north of Glenwood on old U.S. Highway 275.

     Cast members include Cassandra White as Puck, Jim Kalhorn as Oberon/Theseus, Nancy Wright as Titania, Scott Hite as Demetrius, Amanda Fehlner as Helena, Devon Hubner as Lysander, Sara Kittle as Hermia, and Geoff Chenoweth as Nick Bottom.

     Also in the cast are Ken Whitacre, Rebecca Neff, Charlie Robbins, James Cook, Dain Whitacre, Alex Neff, John Kilpatrick, Andrew Powell, Taylor Konfrst, Niki O'Meara, Grace Kirk, Annika Baake, Phyllis Schwaninger, Heather Neff, Danny Harless, Chelsee Bird and Judy Kirk.

     The show is directed by Jeff DeYoung, with Scott Hite as the producer.    Additional show dates are May 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11.

     Any local schools interested in attending the play should contact DeYoung at 520-3311 regarding a possible special performance and discounted tickets.

     Tickets will be on sale April 2 at Glenwood State Bank.

Get your tickets now for Glenwood Night at Lancers on Friday, March 28th at 7:05 p.m. at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs. Glenwood High School Marketing Classes and area merchants are promoting a Glenwood Night at the Lancers. Glenwood Night at the Lancers is a community event for all ages showcasing Glenwood’s own drum line and choir at the Mid-American Center in Council Bluffs. Proceeds will be used to buy a defibrillator for the High School. Reduced ticket prices are $8.00 and can be purchased at CyaNet Sports on the Glenwood square or from any marketing student prior to the event.

Costello, Kearney, Lakin, and Mort Scholarship Deadline is March 31st!

The Mills County Endowment Fund is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the William L. Costello NWMSU Endowed Scholarship Fund, the Charles E. and Florence Lakin Endowed Education Scholarship Fund, the George and R. Charlotte Mort Endowed Education Scholarship Fund, and the Sgt. James C. Kearney, III Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund. Last year the Charles E. and Florence Lakin Endowed Scholarship Fund named five scholars from the Nishna Valley High School and the George and R. Charlotte Mort Endowed Education Scholarship Fund named one scholar. This is the first year for the Sgt. James C. Kearney, III Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund which will award one scholarship of approximately $500 and this is the first year for the William L. Costello NWMSU Endowed Scholarship Fund which will award one scholarship of approximately $1,250.

The Charles E. and Florence Lakin Endowed Scholarship and the Sgt. James C. Kearney, III Memorial Endowed Scholarship are available to Nishna Valley graduating seniors or recent graduates who on the date of his or her graduation from high school, resides or resided within the geographical boundaries of the parts of Mills and Montgomery Counties, Iowa which is the boundary of the Nishna Valley School District as of February 2007.

The William L. Costello NWMSU Endowed Scholarship Fund is available to East Mills High School graduating seniors who are enrolled at NWMSU.

The George and R. Charlotte Mort Endowed Education Scholarship is available for college juniors and seniors who graduated from a Mills County High School and have a declared major in education.

Applicants are asked to complete the application form; submit a copy of your current transcripts as directed in the scholarship’s fact sheet. Scholarship applications are available online at www.iowacommunityfoundations.org/millscef, or at www.omahafoundation.org or from your guidance counselor.

Mills County Endowment Fund Board members are: Chair: Dr. Jacque Young of Glenwood; Vice Chair: Jay Burdic of Malvern; Secretary/Treasurer: Wanda Williams of Henderson; Keith Johnson of Mineola; Robert Woodfill of Hastings; and Robert Schoening of Silver City.
